Dermatology in Bahrain

Our dermatology department treats medical skin conditions and provides aesthetic skin treatments, led by NHRA-licensed dermatology specialists across our Zinj, Seef and Riffa clinics. Treatment begins with a diagnosis — because pigmentation, acne and hair loss each have several distinct causes, and the right treatment depends on which one you actually have.

Skin in the Gulf climate

Two factors shape dermatology practice here. The first is year-round ultraviolet exposure, which drives pigmentation and photoageing and makes daily sun protection central to almost every treatment plan — without it, pigmentation treatment tends to fail or relapse.

The second is skin type. Medium to deep skin tones carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which means laser settings, peel strengths and treatment intervals must be chosen accordingly. A protocol designed for lighter skin can cause the exact pigmentation it was meant to treat. This is why an assessment of your skin type comes before any device is used.

Risks and expectations

Aesthetic treatments carry risk. Injectables can cause bruising, swelling, asymmetry, lumps and, rarely, vascular complications. Peels and microneedling can cause prolonged redness, irritation and post-inflammatory pigmentation. Any treatment can produce an unexpected result.

Most conditions require a course of treatment rather than a single session, and some — melasma in particular — are managed over time rather than permanently cured. Results vary by individual. A consultation will give you a realistic timeline before you commit to anything.

Frequently asked questions

How long does Botox last?

Botulinum toxin typically lasts three to four months, varying with the area treated, the dose, your metabolism and your muscle strength. Effects begin at three to five days and peak at around two weeks. It is not permanent, and maintaining the effect requires repeat treatment.

What is the difference between Botox and fillers?

Botulinum toxin relaxes muscles to soften lines caused by movement — frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet. Fillers add volume to areas that have lost it, such as cheeks or lips, and soften static lines present at rest. They address different problems and are often used together.

Can melasma be cured?

Melasma is managed rather than cured. It is chronic and prone to recurrence, particularly with sun exposure, heat, and hormonal change including pregnancy and contraception. Treatment combines pigment-directed therapy with rigorous daily sun protection. Expect improvement and maintenance, not permanent resolution.

Is laser or chemical peel safe for darker skin tones?

Yes, with appropriate settings and an experienced operator. Medium to deep skin tones carry a higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, so device parameters, peel strength and intervals are adjusted, and pre-treatment preparation is often used. Your skin type is assessed before treatment is planned.

How many sessions will I need for acne scarring?

Most acne scarring requires three to six sessions spaced four to six weeks apart, depending on scar type and depth. Rolling, boxcar and ice-pick scars respond differently and often need a combination of approaches. Your dermatologist will give you a realistic estimate after examining your skin.

Do I need a consultation before treatment?

Yes. Diagnosis comes first — pigmentation, acne and hair loss each have several distinct causes, and treating the wrong one wastes your time and money. A consultation establishes what you have before deciding what to do about it.
