Skin Boosters in Bahrain

Overview

Skin boosters are injectable treatments that improve the quality of the skin rather than changing the shape of the face. Small amounts of a hyaluronic acid based product are placed just under the surface of the skin to improve hydration, which can help skin look smoother, more radiant and more even.

At Stanford Clinics in Bahrain, every skin booster treatment starts with a consultation with a dermatologist, who assesses your skin, discusses your goals and recommends whether a skin booster suits you and which type.

What are skin boosters?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the skin. It attracts and holds water, which helps keep skin plump and supple. Levels fall with age and sun exposure, which is one reason skin can start to look dry, dull or crepey.

Skin boosters deliver hyaluronic acid, sometimes combined with other ingredients such as amino acids, into the dermis through a series of small injections. Unlike dermal fillers, they are not designed to add volume or change contours. Instead they spread through the treated area to improve hydration, texture and the look of fine lines, and some are also designed to support collagen production.

Who skin boosters suit

Skin boosters may suit you if you have:

  • Dehydrated or dull skin that lacks radiance.
  • Fine lines and early signs of aging, including crepey skin.
  • Rough or uneven texture.
  • Mild loss of skin quality or firmness. Your dermatologist will advise which areas can be treated.

They are not suitable for everyone. Treatment may need to be avoided or postponed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, if you have an active skin infection or cold sore in the area, a known allergy to any of the ingredients, certain autoimmune conditions, or a bleeding disorder. Your dermatologist will check your medical history before recommending treatment.

Types of skin boosters

Profhilo

Profhilo is a hyaluronic acid injectable designed to spread under the skin and improve hydration and laxity. It is usually given through a small number of injection points on each side of the face, typically as two sessions about four weeks apart. It is not a filler and does not add volume.

Juvederm Volite

Juvederm Volite is a hyaluronic acid injectable designed to improve skin quality, including smoothness, hydration and elasticity. It is injected with a series of very small injections across the treatment area and is often given as a single session, with results that build over the following weeks.

Jalupro

Jalupro combines amino acids with hyaluronic acid. The amino acids are building blocks the skin uses to make collagen, so it is used to support skin firmness, texture and tone as well as hydration. It is usually given as a course of several sessions.

Your dermatologist will advise which option suits your skin and goals.

What happens during your appointment

A skin booster appointment usually takes around 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the area treated:

Aftercare

Most people return to normal activities straight away. Simple aftercare helps reduce swelling and bruising and lowers the risk of infection:

Recovery, results, risks and cost

Recovery: small raised bumps at the injection points are common and usually settle within a day or two. Redness, mild swelling, tenderness and bruising can last a few days. If you have an event coming up, allow a week or so for any bruising to fade.

Results: skin often feels more hydrated within a couple of weeks, and the improvement builds over the course of treatment. Many people have an initial course of two or three sessions, followed by maintenance treatments every few months. How long results last varies with the product used, your skin and your lifestyle. Results are gradual and differ from person to person.

Side effects and risks: the most common effects are temporary bumps, redness, swelling, tenderness and bruising. Less commonly, small lumps can form, cold sores can flare up, or an infection can develop. Allergic reactions are rare. Very rarely, any hyaluronic acid injection can block a blood vessel, which needs urgent treatment, so please contact us straight away if you notice severe or increasing pain, skin colour changes or blanching after treatment.

Cost: the cost of skin boosters depends on the product chosen, the areas treated and the number of sessions you need, so we confirm a price after your consultation rather than quoting a fixed figure. Your dermatologist will explain the plan and the cost before treatment begins.

Frequently asked questions

Are skin boosters the same as fillers?
No. Both often use hyaluronic acid, but fillers are designed to add volume and shape, while skin boosters spread more evenly under the skin to improve hydration and texture.

Does it hurt?
Most people feel a series of small pricks. A numbing cream is applied beforehand to make treatment more comfortable.

How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the product and your skin. Many people have two or three sessions a few weeks apart, then maintenance treatments. Your dermatologist will advise which option suits you.

When will I see results?
Skin often looks and feels more hydrated within two to four weeks, with further improvement over the course of treatment.

Can skin boosters be combined with other treatments?
Often, yes. They are sometimes combined with treatments such as Botox or other skin treatments. Your doctor will advise on timing and what is suitable for you.

Who should not have skin boosters?
Treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active skin infection in the area, or if you are allergic to any of the ingredients. Tell your doctor about your medical history and medications at your consultation.
